Hebrews 8:1 (NLT)

Here is the main point:We have a High Priest who sat down in the place of honor beside the throne of the majestic God in heaven.

Summarize the first 7 chapters of Hebrews that lead to the Main Point.

The Main Point must be pretty important.

Important to understand who our High Priest is and where he is

Hebrews 8:2 (NLT)

There he ministers in the heavenly Tabernacle, the true place of worship that was built by the Lord and not by human hands.

The Tabernacle in Exodus was a temporary shelter or dwelling where the Israelites could worship God.

Our High Priest, Jesus, is not in a replica ministering. He is in the original Tabernacle made by God.

This is a reminder that we are in a temporary place, temporary bodies, and temporary places.

Hebrews 8:3 (NLT)

And since every high priest is required to offer gifts and sacrifices, our High Priest must make an offering, too.

The concept of priests making offering to God is from God. Offering and sacrifices were the means that God would deal with humanity. They had violated the ‘Original Covenant’.

If the concept of offerings came from God, than Jesus, too, must make an offering, a sacrifice.

This is why crucifixion is necessary. It is the offering made on our behalf.

Hebrews 10:14 (NLT)

For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.

Hebrews 8:6 (NLT)

But now Jesus, our High Priest, has been give a ministry that is far superior to the old priesthood, for he is the one who mediates for us a far better covenant with God, based on better promises.

Hebrews 8:7 (NLT)

If the first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no need for a second covenant to replace it.

Exodus 20:1 (NLT)

Then God gave the people all these instructions:

Exodus 20:2 (NLT)

“I am the LORD your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery.

Exodus 20:3 (NLT)

You must not have any other god but me.

Exodus 20:4 (NLT)

You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea.

Exodus 20:5 (NLT)

You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods.

Hebrews 8:8 (NLT)  (Jeremiah 31:31-34)

But when God found fault with the people, he said:“The day is coming, says the LORD,When I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and Judah.

Hebrews 8:9 (NLT)

This covenant will not be like the one I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand and led them out of the land of Egypt. They did not remain faithful to my covenant, so I turned my back on them, says the LORD.

Exodus 24:7 (NLT)

Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it aloud to the people. Again they all responded, “We will do everything the LORD has commanded. We will obey.”

Exodus 32:8 (NLT)

“How quickly they have turned away from the way I commanded them to live! They have melted down gold and made a calf, and they have bowed down and sacrificed to it.

Exodus 32:8(cont.) (NLT)

They are saying, ‘These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.’”

Hebrews 8:10 (NLT)

But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day, says the LORD:

Hebrews 8:10 (NLT)

I will put my laws in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

Hebrews 8:11 (NLT)

And they will not need to teach their neighbors, nor will they need to teach their relatives, saying, ‘You should know the LORD.’ For everyone, from the least to the greatest, will know me already.

Hebrews 8:12 (NLT)

And I will forgive their wickedness,And I will never again remember their sins.

Hebrews 8:13 (NLT)

When God speaks of a “new” covenant, it means he has made the first one obsolete. It is now out of date and will soon disappear.
